Inscribed copy of W. S. Gilbert's collected verse, "The Bab Ballads with which are included Songs of a Savoyard." Gilbert inscribed the front endpaper with a five-line quotation from his song "The played-out humourist" beginning "I've come to the conclusion that my mine of jocularity...," signed and dated it "7 Nov 1900." "The played-out humourist" is a song from Gilbert and F. Osmond Carr's opera His Excellency. Book is also signed by the original owner, Brandon Thomas.
